Standard superconducting magnets
Oxford Instruments NanoScience offfers a wide range of superconducting magnets covering the range from 8T up to 20T.
A solenoid is the common term given to a cylindrical coil of wire carrying a current. Typically the length is much greater than the diameter. A solenoid will always provide the most efficient and hence affordable means of providing a desired level of magnetic field.
Solenoids have a single access direction which is the bore of the cylinder. The sample may be placed anywhere along the magnet bore but is usually at the magnet centre.
The cryostat design may allow room temperature access to the magnet bore or be fitted with a variable temperature facility in order to study the effects of temperature as well as field.
A solenoid may be oriented horizontally or vertically.
